In today’s economy, the importance of a highly effective team is more important than ever. We’re all doing more with less, and it takes the support and contribution of each individual to create a high performing team. In all of the years I’ve worked with teams I’ve learned that there are several key attributes that either make or break the team. They are:

Team Members

Understand the styles and differences in styles of each team member

Learn to appreciate and build upon the diversity within the team

Learn to communicate in ways that are most effective for the other styles

Contribute freely and willingly

Clearly understand and take ownership of the mission, vision and goals

Team Leader (Manager)

Coach more than they manage (ie; ask more than they tell)

Understand the value of having a genuine sense of curiosity (be open to not knowing)

Openly communicate all information that’s useful

Acknowledge and validate all contributions

Recognize, acknowledge and reward both team and individual successes
